Restorative Yoga Teacher Certification

Our Curriculum

  • What is Restorative Yoga?

Learn the unique attributes of this style and how it differs from other styles of Yoga. A history of the style along with its many benefits are covered in-depth along with a breakdown of the props typically used in this practice.

  • Yogic Philosophy and Teaching Restorative Yoga

This section ties in what was taught in Part 1 to how Yogic Philosophy relates to both styles. We also review communicating with our students, how observing and reading your class is important, and how to assist the different students that you will teach.

  • Pranayama and Relaxation Techniques

The Pranayama techniques that are used during a Restorative Yoga class are an important part of helping your students to relax and rejuvenate. The technique covered, along with video demonstrations, are Apa Japa Breath, Diaphragmatic Breath, Ujjayi Breathing and Ujjayi Pranayama, Nadi Shodana, Sitali Breathing, and Full Yogic Breath. Additional relaxation techniques like Mantra Meditation and Yoga Nidra are also covered.

  • Learning the Asanas

This is an 8-part lesson that thoroughly covers the asanas with a focus on a Restorative Yoga class setting. How to practice the asanas with props and modifications and how to assist and align students is the focus of these lessons. In Part One we thoroughly cover the asana names, how to practice them, muscles affected, variations, modifications, etc. However, a Restorative Yoga practice is about rejuvenation and being able to safely and comfortably relax into an asana. These lessons dive into 30+ of the most commonly practiced Restorative Yoga postures to provide more in-depth information on modifications and prop usage. Video aids for setting up and practicing the asanas as well as assisting and alignment practices are covered, along with a review on the benefits and contraindications for each asana. Lastly, we review meditation practices (along with example sessions via video) and how they fit into a Restorative class.

  • Sequencing

This section builds off of the information covered in Part 1 to guides you in creating Restorative Yoga sequences. Since Restorative Yoga is about rejuvenating the body, sequencing based on ailments and for certain parts of the body is common. We cover 90+ sequences that range from focusing on a certain part of the body (upper back, knees, shoulders, etc.) to particular ailments (colds, bronchitis, sciatica, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, etc.) to mental health needs (depression, anxiety, stress, etc.). Sequences are provided both in text and through video aids.

For starters, Restorative Yoga is a very gentle and slow-paced type of yoga. It’s perfect for those new to yoga, or for those who want to take a break from the more vigorous styles of yoga.

Restorative Yoga is all about relaxation. The poses are designed to release body and mind tension and promote healing. This type of yoga is perfect for anyone dealing with stress, anxiety, or any other type of physical or mental health issue.

Another great thing about Restorative Yoga Certification is that it can be done online. Our Online Restorative Yoga Teacher Training Course makes it easy and convenient for you to learn everything you need about this beautiful style without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Why Should Yoga Teachers Care About Recuperative Classes?

Yoga teachers should care about recuperative classes because they are a vital part of the healing process for many students. Recuperative classes help students to rebuild strength and energy after an injury or illness and can also be helpful for those who are dealing with chronic pain or stress. These classes provide a safe and supportive environment for students to practice at their own pace and focus on their breath.

Restorative Yoga Health Benefits

Restorative yoga is a form of yoga that is focused on relaxation and healing. The practice of restorative yoga provides health benefits, including reducing stress, improving sleep, and reducing pain.

Is Student Safety a Priority in Restorative Yoga?

Yes, student safety is always a priority in restorative yoga. We take extra care to ensure our students are comfortable and safe while practicing yoga. We never want anyone to feel like they are in danger while practicing yoga.

Teaching Restorative Yoga with Safety in Mind

When teaching restorative yoga, it is essential to keep safety in mind. There are a few things to keep in mind when you are teaching this type of yoga. First, make sure that your students are comfortable. They should be able to lie down on their mat without pain. If they are uncomfortable, they will not be able to relax fully and may injure themselves. Modification helps students relax into poses during class. Second, make sure that students are using props correctly. Make sure that the props are secure and that they will not move around during the class. Third, make sure that you are aware of the student’s limitations. Know what they can and cannot do so that you can verbally or physically assist the student accordingly. Lastly, always be there for your students. Be available to answer any questions and help them through the class.

This was a great add on to my Hatha Yoga Platinum training. I know so much more now about modifications, props use, and overall how to run a Restorative Style Yoga class.

I started my qualification with Aura Wellness Center in September 2013 and completed my qualification at the end of August 2014. The course was accurate, stimulating and made putting a yoga class together easy. Everything was there that was needed. The books were educational in a practical as well as a theoretical way and the videos showed simple sequences that are relative to what the average practitioner can achieve very quickly. Both of these gave me the confidence to start up and teach my classes. Being able to complete the examination questions and write the essay, really convinced me that I now knew a lot about Yoga. Nearly three years later I’m still teaching and although new members have joined the class the original people that I started with are also still coming. To me, that says everything. Many thanks to Aura Wellness Center, with whom I continued my education by doing a Restorative Yoga Teaching Course and am now studying the “Therapeutic Yoga Course”.

Thanks so much to Aura Wellness, Dr. Paul Jerard and staff for all the valuable information.

I had been doing yoga off and on for many years when I finally decided to get serious about it. I started taking yoga at two Recreational Centers in my rather small town. At 55 years of age I learned my body had begun to desert me. But I was determined. Finally I signed up for Aura Wellness Level I Yoga In a Box. An online certification you might ask disdainfully. If that is the case, best to try one on from Aura Wellness. It is no cake walk. You will spend many hours preparing for the exams and the practical. I received all I needed to be able to teach beginning yoga, which I have been doing for several years.

At 70, I am now certified in Level I, Chair and Restorative Yoga. These classes give my senior students opportunities to move into better health, balance and flexibility. The courses are extremely difficult–that’s as it should be. I feel that I received all I needed to teach these classes.

Thanks so much to Aura Wellness, Dr. Paul Jerard and staff for all the valuable information. I refer to it all the time and am so glad to have completed these courses.
