Yoga Distance Learning Education

distance learning yoga teacher certification courseBy Faye Martins

What are the best options for yoga distance learning education? With the current needs of families, some interns ask, “Where is the closest yoga teacher training near me?” With the advent of the Internet, the opportunities to advance your learning have increased more than anyone could have imagined 20 years ago. You can find distance learning education classes on almost any topic, including yoga teaching. Taking these classes off-site has many benefits. Two of the biggest benefits are saving money and having more quality time with distance learning education.

Cost of Gasoline – Yoga Teacher Training Near Me

Sometimes, financial circumstances force us to think outside the box. You always have options and there are more options for certification today, than ever before. Exactly, how much money and time could you save by training to become a yoga instructor with distance learning? To calculate the monetary savings we need to look at gas expenses and tuition. For this example, we will use $4.00 per gallon as the cost of gas. We will also say your car gets 35 miles per gallon. You live 35 miles from campus. Using these numbers, each time you go to campus and back costs you $8.00 worth of gas. If classes meet twice a week you spend $16 per week, or $64 per month, just for gasoline.

When you factor in tuition for an on-campus program at about $2000 to $15,000, your costs only increase. A good quality distance learning program to become a yoga teacher costs about $600. That is a minimum potential savings of $1400.

What About Time?

How much time will you save to take Yoga teacher training classes at home? For example, you live an hour away from campus, depending on traffic, and your classes meet twice a week in the evenings for three hours each time. That amounts to four hours of commute time per week or 16 hours per month. Now add the actual class time (for our example) of six hours per week or 24 hours per month. You will spend about 40 hours per month commuting and attending class! That is an entire workweek! We have not even included homework time, or possibly working a second job to pay for classes.

If you are like most people, you will spend the 40 hours you save taking classes at home with your family and friends. You will not have to worry about neglecting them and all the associated stress. They will appreciate that, and most likely be more supportive when you do have to study. Many friends and family members practice at home with the “teacher in training.” Perhaps best of all, since there is less overall stress during the bonding time you spend with friends and family; your time together really will be quality time.

What Are My Choices?

It’s true that most teachers have unique interests and backgrounds. A power yoga enthusiast isn’t usually going to sign up for an onsite or distance learning yin yoga course. It happens, but that’s the exception and not the rule. This in turn creates demand for a variety of courses, which causes potential teachers to do a bit of research about styles, certification, and/or registration options. For students who are interested in course options, it’s worth the time to research the online store.

What is the Best Yoga Teacher Training Near Me?

If your goal is the closest training, an online or distance learning course makes it possible for you to study at home and at any time. Clearly, you will have more quality study time with distance learning education than if you attended classes on-campus or a tropical yoga certification course in a vacation atmosphere. It depends on your priorities because some interns have a great time at the beach.

That said, when someone asks, “What is the best yoga teacher training near me?” this person is probably not looking for the adventure of a vacation, festival atmosphere, or a possible search for a potential partner wrapped into their teacher training. It’s worth noting that a vacation package with classmates can be a lot of fun, but each of us has different life circumstances and obligations.

What About the Yoga Alliance?

As you know much has changed since COVID-19 has invaded our planet. All of us have learned to adapt and the US Yoga Alliance has a provision for online learning. For Aura Wellness Center, we have a yoga teacher course that has been approved by US Yoga Alliance, and at the time of this writing, this program will run through December 31, 2023. However, please contact US Yoga Alliance (YA) directly, if you have any questions about their specific policies. This issue can be confusing, since there is more than one Yoga Alliance and each organization knows their policies better than the ashrams and studios. That said, contact the alliance you desire to be registered with directly. They will have the most current information regarding any changes in, and explanations about, their guidelines.
