Practicing Yoga to Strengthen Intuition

practicing Yoga to strengthen intuitionBy Sangeetha Saran

Is practicing Yoga to strengthen intuition possible? Yes, because intuition is a form of awareness. Practicing Yoga over any length of time will gradually enhance intuition.  Yoga is a philosophy that seeks to answer the eternal questions “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” The path to this inner wisdom is different for every traveler. Yet, at the core of any spiritual practice is a belief in a higher power whose presence represents pure bliss. How, then, can we reach our destinations?

The Roadmap

Intuition is a roadmap leading to our inner selves. It is the deep knowing, the small voice that says to check on a sleeping child or call a sick friend without knowing why. We all have it, but sometimes our lives are so noisy that we have trouble listening. Fortunately, we can learn to get in touch with that part of ourselves, and Yoga provides the tools we need. Yoga has many benefits, one of which is that it can help to strengthen your intuition. Intuition is the ability to know something without thinking about it or knowing how you know it. It’s a kind of inner knowing. Many people think that intuition is a kind of sixth sense, but it’s just a matter of being in tune with your own body and mind.

Intuition is a Form of Awareness

Yoga can help you develop this intuition by teaching you to focus on your breath, thoughts, and feelings. When you can focus on these things, you’ll be better able to hear your inner voice and trust your gut instinct. Intuition is our built-in guidance system, and developing our awareness is the key to strengthening it. Unfortunately, in today’s society, we are often taught to ignore our intuition in favor of logical thinking. This can lead us to make decisions that are not in our best interest. Practicing yoga to strengthen intuition can help us to reconnect with our internal awareness by quieting the mind and connecting with the body. In yoga, we learn to listen to our bodies and trust our instincts. The more we practice this, the stronger our intuition will become.

A Lifestyle of Enhanced Intuition

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, an ancient guide to Yoga, explains how the mind works and how we can use the components of Yoga to build an all-embracing lifestyle. Many of the concepts he describes help us to develop intuition. Among these are the following practices. In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali talks about how yoga can help strengthen our intuition. He states that through practicing yoga, we can become more in tune with our true nature and develop a better understanding of who we are. When we can connect with our true nature, we are better able to make decisions that are in alignment with our highest good. The practice of yoga can help us to let go of the things that no longer serve us and focus on what is most important to us.

Study of Sacred Writings

One of the ways you can begin to strengthen your intuition is through the study of sacred writings. This could include texts from your own religious or spiritual tradition or books like The Bhagavad Gita or The Tao Te Ching that offer wisdom from various traditions. As you read, allow yourself to be open to new ideas and perspectives. Don’t force yourself to believe anything, but let the words wash over you and see what insights arise.

Strong Boundaries in Relationships and Actions

One of the benefits of yoga is that it can help you develop strong boundaries in your relationships and actions. When you can control your body and mind, you are less likely to be swayed by outside influences. This can help you stay true to your values and intuition. Yoga can also help you develop a better understanding of yourself and others. By learning to control your breath and thoughts, you can become more aware of your own feelings and needs. This can help you communicate better with others and build stronger relationships.

Self-Study and Pure Living

Self-study is important to live a pure life and strengthen one’s intuition. Practicing yoga is a form of self-study that can help to cleanse the body and mind and to develop a deeper understanding of oneself. When the body and mind are purified, it becomes easier to hear the inner voice and trust one’s intuition. Intuition is like a muscle – the more we use it, the stronger it becomes. Living a pure life and practicing yoga regularly can develop our intuition and tap into our inner wisdom.

Posturing

Physical postures (asanas) cultivate a strong and stable body. However, these postures also have the added benefit of helping to strengthen intuition. Intuition is our ability to access knowledge that is beyond the realm of the five senses. When we focus on our breath and move our bodies in specific ways, we open ourselves up to receive intuitive guidance. The next time you practice yoga, pay attention to how your body feels in each posture. See if you can sense any intuitive insights that come through.

Controlled Breathing

You can practice Yoga to strengthen intuition through controlled breathing. When you focus on your breath, you can better clear your mind and tune into your inner voice. Yoga is a great way to practice controlled breathing, combining physical and mental exercises. As you move through the poses, focus on your breath and let go of any thoughts that are not serving you. Over time, you will find that your intuition becomes stronger, and you are better able to make decisions from a place of knowing.

Withdrawal or Detachment

To strengthen your intuition, it is important to practice withdrawal or detachment from the external world. This means you should take time for yourself – away from technology, work, and other distractions – to focus on your inner thoughts and feelings. Spend time in nature, meditate, or do something that makes you feel calm and relaxed. When you clear your mind of outside noise, you can better hear your intuition.

Ability to Focus

Yoga to strengthen intuition works by teaching people how to tune out distractions and focus on a particular idea or object. Intuition is often described as a “gut feeling” or a “sixth sense,” and it can be a powerful tool. Unfortunately, it’s also often discounted or ignored. By practicing yoga and learning how to focus the mind, people can develop their intuition and learn to trust their gut instincts.

Meditation for Releasing Attachments

Sometimes, we are so consumed with attachments that we cannot think clearly. Concentrating is impossible if our attachments take up all of our time. To strengthen our intuition, we need to learn how to let go of attachments. One way to do this is through meditation. When we focus on our breath and allow our thoughts to come and go without judgment, we create space for intuitive insights to arise. Over time, we can train our minds to be more receptive to these inner nudges and focus when needed.

About Ajna Chakra

In the seven chakra system, the sixth chakra (Ajna) – known as the third eye – is the center for creativity, intuition, and clear thinking. It is also associated with the pineal gland. Since the lower five chakras must be balanced for the third eye to “open,” working on those chakras is the first step in developing the intuitive self. Then, special exercises can strengthen the sixth chakra. The Ajna chakra, or third eye, is said to be the center of intuition. When this chakra is open and balanced, we can trust our gut instincts and listen to our inner voice. We can more easily see the interconnectedness of all things and better understand the Universal Truth. Practicing yoga can help to open and balance the Ajna chakra, leading to a stronger intuition.

Increasing imagination with the Ajna (sixth) Chakra includes the following exercises:

Alternate Nostril Breathing

Chanting the mantra, Ham-Ksham (Hum Ksham)

Postures, including Tree, Cobra, and Fish Pose; and Supported Forward Bends

Meditation

Eye exercises

Visual stimulation or guided imagery, especially those involving the color indigo

Affirmations with the word “I.”

Music using woodwind instruments

Power of Imagination

Enhance Your Imagination

In the words of the great scientist Albert Einstein, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” Yoga can help to enhance your imagination. One of the best ways to do this is to practice visualization. Visualization is a technique where you focus your attention on a particular image or scene and try to see it as clearly as possible in your mind. Doing this regularly can help improve your ability to imagine things clearly. Additionally, yoga can help improve your focus and concentration, both of which are important for developing strong intuition.
